Damian I. Mills has always been passionate about music. His interest began at his grandmother’s parties where the old folks danced belly to belly, thigh to thigh in the basement blue light. Soul ballads would sear couples together or facilitate their tearful partings. Damian learned from the blue churning of lovelorn bodies to believe in the power of music.
Damian was born on June 25th, 1978 in Duarte, California, a city knitted into the base of the San Gabriel Mountains, eventually attending Duarte high School. Upon graduation in 1996 Damian decided to follow his passion and major in music business and production at Glendale Community College.
While at Glendale Community College Damian was quite noticeable, traversing the campus at 6ft 8, 340 lbs. At the urging of GCC’s coaches, and his own love for the sport, Damian joined the football team. He excelled there. Later, upon returning to the sport in 2006 in the Labelle Community Football league, a league sponsored by the legendary singer, Patti Labelle, Damian really came into his own as a player, earning the honor of being the LCFL’s best lineman. And while Damian was protecting quarterbacks in the LCFL in the evenings, during the days he was working with troubled youth in the Monrovia area, proving them mentoring and linking them to resources that steered them away from gangs and drugs.
But music was never far from Damian Mill’s mind. Always tinkering, listening, experimenting, and dreaming, Damian was making music, rapping, producing other rappers and musicians, and pushing it out there in his local area. He was learning from famous DJ’s in the Hollywood Club Scene, taking informal internships with various celebrity DJs.
In 2000 Damian formed a friendship with a local artist named Patrick Espanto, aka Tunesmith. Patrick and Damian’s friendship boomed into a musical collaboration that formed Track Tailor Productions, a management company for musical artists. Eventually, after discovering the multiplicity of projects musical engineers work on, Damian decided to enroll in the Musician’s Institute In Hollywood where he learned from creating believable sounds for stage and film to creating whole film scores. He graduated in 2015.
Armed with a new scope of skills from the Musician’s Institute Damian Mills is excited about what he is creating in the studio, as well as his ability to better assist others in expanding the vision of their music. Damian is using his mixed tape as an example of the diversity of skills he offers. He wants to be the trendsetter at the cutting edge of the industry.
